Job Summary: A Computer Operator plays a crucial role in maintaining and ensuring the smooth operation of computer systems and peripheral equipment. They are responsible for performing routine tasks related to data entry, system monitoring, and basic troubleshooting to support the efficient functioning of the organization’s IT infrastructure.
- Data Entry and Management:
- Input and update data into computer systems accurately and efficiently.
- Maintain and organize electronic records and databases.
- Perform data verification and quality checks to ensure accuracy.
- System Monitoring:
- Monitor computer systems, servers, and network devices for performance and error indications.
- Respond to system alerts and error messages promptly.
- Report any technical issues to the IT team for resolution.
- Printing and Document Handling:
- Operate and maintain printers, scanners, and other peripheral devices.
- Manage print queues and ensure the timely printing of documents.
- Handle document collation, binding, and distribution as needed.
- Backup and Data Recovery:
- Perform regular backups of critical data and files.
- Assist in data recovery efforts in case of system failures or data loss incidents.
- Basic Troubleshooting:
- Identify and troubleshoot minor hardware and software issues.
- Escalate complex technical problems to the IT department.
- Follow predefined troubleshooting procedures.
- Software and Application Support:
- Install, update, and maintain software applications.
- Provide basic support to users for software-related inquiries.
- Assist in user account management and password resets.
- Generate and compile reports as required by management.
- Maintain logs of computer system activities and incidents.
- Security Compliance:
- Adhere to IT security policies and procedures.
- Assist in user access management and user access audits.
- Create and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to computer operations.
- Maintain documentation for hardware and software inventory.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional computer-related education or certifications is a plus.
- Proven experience as a Computer Operator or in a similar role.
- Familiarity with computer hardware, peripherals, and software applications.
- Basic knowledge of computer networks and operating systems.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
- Good problem-solving skills and the ability to follow troubleshooting procedures.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to work in shifts if required.
- Knowledge of data privacy and security principles is advantageous.
